I've been having a go at some of the flora on the patch and here are some of yesterdays finding:
Broad-leaved Willowherb

Common Broomrape

Crested Dog's-tail

False Fox Sedge

Glaucous Sedge

Lesser Spearwort or Sea Aster

Glaux maritima

  1. Are you sure about Lesser Sea-spurrey? Looks like Glaux to me.

  2. No I'm not sure, I had it identified by an expert from this photo. I'll keep an eye on it. Presumably when it flowers I'll be able to see which it is.

  3. Apologies it was the Lesser Spearwort that was identified for me, the Lesser Sea-spurrey I identified myself. Thanks for the correction.

  6. No, nor am I, just love to identify things, you dont need to be an expert on most of the groups you are attempting, what you need is good quality literature, ideally a microscope of some sort, and then carefully key out your specimens, you will then arrive at a name and ONLY THEN do you look for confirmation by comparing with photos on internet. I am a beginner at most groups as well. BTW i suspect that most people on the 1000 in 1ksq are making as many mistakes, but you are putting the evidence in the form of photos up for view. Looking through peoples lists i see numerous names of species that require dissection to identify but no suggestion that a specimen was taken. Even when there are photos, I can see that the name applied cannot be arrived at from that photo alone, more photos or examination of specimen in hand or under microscope needed. Was this done? no way of knowing.
